Week 12

Week 12

Due to time constraints and deadlines our group was scheduled a meeting with Megan Chudleigh today (Monday 17th) at St.Albans campus.

Our group decided we would shoot the Western scene this week and would meet up early on Tuesday to get some shots done.

Today (Tuesday 18th) James, Lara and Nelson met up at St. Albans campus to pick up the camera then headed off to Sunbury Hall where we would meet up with Matt.

We were unable to do any shooting at the farm we originally had planned so we had to settle for something else. A remote Western theme was needed so we all hopped into Matthews car where he drove us all to Mt. Macedon

Luckily it was such a wonderful day although slightly windy, made our entire shoot go much more smoothly. The only thing we had to avoid shooting was during when the occasional train would go past.

Arrived and unpacking at Mt. Macedon.

Week 11

Week 11

This week everyone had upcoming tests and assignments so we decided to call off meeting at campus and work on something each at home.

James worked on our videos this week using motion to add special effects and color correction. James informed our group of the problems he encountered while editing our project, therefore we decided to seek help from Jaime Hoe.

Matt added extra detail onto the spaceship, adding tones, shades and rust effects. Upon completing the spaceship, Matt took some photos and added special effects; space background and engine flames using photo shop. The only part left to be built is the spaceship leg.

Week 10

Week 10

Due to lighting problems with the previous Sci-Fi scene. Our group had to re shoot the entire scene and hopefully get the lighting correct this time.

While the scene seemed fine on camera it was only after we captured the footage that we found out the scene did not turn out how we anticipated. The main problem was the amount of lights available for us, as majority of the studio rooms main lighting was not even working.

Due to the spacesuit color conflicting with the green screen, Nelson's arm was being cut off when he was reaching for the spaceship door button, we taped his wrists with black tape which seemed like a effective method to overcome that problem.

Week 9

Week 9

Today we started at 10:00am to film our Sci-Fi scene. Josh Wiltshire was unavailable at the time of the shoot so Nelson will be acting this scene since the spacesuit was quite large. The spacesuit locked in quite a bit of heat so filming was shot in increments as the helmet would be taken off every now and then.

Setting up the studio for the first time was a hassle. Most of the lights did not work in the studio so we had to work with what we had. The small amount of lighting we did have at our disposal was used in close up shots which created even more heat to Nelson. We had to work quickly while trying to get the scene looking right.

After we finished shooting the scene, we headed back into the computer lab to capture the footage. After we checked the footage and everything was working, we decided to call it a wrap and headed home.

Week 8

Week 8

This week our group scheduled a meeting at Sunbury Hall to film our Noir scene. This was going to be our very first attempt as a group working with cameras, lighting and actors.

Unfortunately Steve Kelly was unable to join us this week. However Adam was the volunteer from Sunbury Hall who helped us for this scene. After suiting up with a trench coat and noir hat, we were ready to rock and roll.

James played as the dead victim in the room, this scene was the first shot we took and additional lighting was required on James' face. Matt was also an actor in this scene, which involved Matt running down the stairs and bumping into Adam.

Week 7

Week 7

This week we managed to complete the entire 'Things we need' list. The spaceship and spacesuit were completed and we decided that next week we would begin shooting one of the scenes. We decided to tackle the Noir scene first.

We scheduled for next week to shoot our Noir scene at Sunbury Hall. James will be hiring the camera and requesting Damian to volunteer act in our movie. All the props such as trench coats and noir hats were to be brought next week. We decided to remove guns from the scene entirely as it was an hassle to gain permission.

Below are some photos of the spaceship created and designed by Matt Foxall.

Week 6

Week 6

Since the spaceship and suit took longer to make then anticipated, this week our group called off meeting at campus again and continued with completing the last of the things we needed.

Matt was building the model spaceship for our Sci-Fi scene but was missing some bits and pieces. Nelson had spare Gundam model parts which ended up being used on the ship making it look more futuristic.

James was working on the spacesuit which consisted of a wielding mask for the helmet, painted coke bottles with pipes connecting to the helmet and a white suit spray painted with blackish grey undertone.

Week 5

Week 5

For this week having no actual footage shot yet, we decided meeting up at campus would be a waste of time, therefore we worked on getting more items scratched off the requirement list.

Matt was working on the space ship for the Sci-Fi scene. The spaceship body was to be created using plastic, mini pipes were inserted into the spaceship as wires and additional Gundam model spare parts were to be used for added detail.

James was working on the spacesuit also needed for the Sci-Fi scene. The helmet was a wielding mask from Bunnings Warehouse. A white paint suit was to be used for the main body and the respiratory tank was going to be crafted using empty coke bottles, plastic tubing and cardboard boxes.

Nelson went to K-Mart and purchased noir hats, cowboy hats and western guns with holsters. Most stores did not stock the appropriate props we needed such as guns being water pistols etc. After searching several stores, Nelson came across a general store that sold everything we needed such as; noir and cowboy hats, westernized guns with holsters.

Gun option 1 discarded since the shape and large size was unsuitable for a western scene.

Gun option 2 was also a nono due to the small size and inappropriate design.

Gun option 3 was the winner due to the ideal size and design. Holster was a bonus.

Week 4

Week 4

This week we met up to practice some shooting and work with lighting. Matt brought in the completed model corridor (which looks fantastic by the way) so we had something to film. We hired a tiny room in building 7 to practice our shoot.

We experienced some minor problems with the shot as black and white lines were appearing in the background. We were unsure of the causes but we assumed it was due to inadequate lighting or colors conflicting. After a few unsuccessful attempts of trying to adjust the camera settings, we decided to seek help and call it a day.

In the end we thought it was a worthwhile experience and before departing we organized our plans for next week.

Week 3

Week 3

During week 3 our group members worked on crossing something off from the 'Things we need' list. The most time consuming prop was definitely going to be the spaceship, spacesuit and the model corridor.

James hired the cameras and booked the dates in for the green screen. Matt worked on the model corridor for our Sci-Fi scene which consisted of plastic and cardboard.

Nelson found a trench coat for the Noir scene and would be going to buy more props later in the week. Two noir hats, one cowboy hat and western guns will have to be brought whereas everyone else already owned either a trench coats or cowboy hat.

Week 2

Week 2

During this week, Nelson joined the video promo team. The lesson comprised of filling everyone in on their roles and shooting schedules for the semester. The themes our group decided to film are;
